A simple act of kindness can change your entire week. Sometimes, it can even change your business.
Two months ago, my sister and I headed to Celebration, Florida, for a relaxing spa weekend. We decided to wrap up our day of pampering with a fun hibachi dinner. If you have ever been to a hibachi restaurant, you know you sit at a large communal table with strangers.
That night, the table was filled with several couples and families, but the vibe was incredibly quiet and uncomfortable. No one was talking. The silence was heavy.
Instead of sitting in awkward silence, I decided to break the ice. I struck up a conversation with the couple sitting right next to my sister and me. We started chatting about where we were all from and what we did for a living. They were a fascinating couple all the way from North Carolina, visiting the Orlando area for a professional conference.
As we wrapped up our meal, I handed them my business card. I told them that Orlando is an absolutely amazing place, and if they ever needed recommendations or ideas for things to do while in town, I would love to help. No sales pitch, no pressure—just one local being neighborly.
A Surprising Connection Across State Lines
Two months later, my phone rang.
It turns out that despite living hundreds of miles away in North Carolina, this couple’s parents own a second home just three miles away from my own house! Talk about a small world. The son was so impressed by our friendly dinner conversation that he immediately called his parents and urged them to contact me.
His parents actually already had their Florida home listed with another real estate agent. However, after hearing their son’s glowing recommendation from his trip, they decided to cancel their existing contract and give me a call instead.
The Moral of the Story
This Friday, June 5, 2026, this incredible property officially hits the market.
The moral of this entire experience is simple: Just be nice. Be nice for absolutely no reason.
When you put good energy out into the world, good things happen. I did not strike up a conversation at that dinner table to get a client. I did it to make a quiet room a little warmer.
Now, I get to focus all my energy on doing the absolute best job possible for this amazing family. I cannot wait to help them sell their absolute “cutie patootie” of a home located in a vibrant, active adult community nearby. Stay tuned for the official listing details this Friday!
